This is today's duo. The inspiration was a photo submitted by Dalan Wells for this week's DPW Challenge. The original was taken in Kew Gardens, England with a thatched cottage in the picture, but I wanted the more generic look of a country barn.
The original painting is always slightly different to any image even though I work hard to be accurate. Also different viewing screens see the colours differently. The top images are scans, see below for photographs and a different slant.
Scans flatten the surface texture and alter the look of iridescent accents, photos tend to grey the colours and show more depth. I prefer to photograph and photo shop the image, but it is very time consuming, sometimes taking hours which I don't have. I also prefer scans on my Daily Paintworks gallery because they produce brighter and more attractive thumbnails. Scanning is fast which is important when you are working on two or more paintings each day.
Art is such a balancing act!
