CRIMSON PETALS

I'm still working on duos. I posted "Rose de Paris" (bottom) a couple of days ago and here is the larger companion painting, "Crimson Petals". The surface is an acid free Strathmore Postcard carefully prepared to archival standard. The final painting has UV protective varnish and is ready to frame.

ROSE DE PARIS
ORIGINAL ART ACEO
2.5" x 3.5"

I have recently changed my prep method for card surfaces and I love that the brush moves easily across the surface and yet it has texture which is oh so important with Acrylics. Presently my postcard sized OSWOA have this new surface but I will be experimenting with the same prep on my ACEO soon.

As usually with red, this rose was very difficult to photograph and scan. The scanner was radically changing the colour and depth, probably overwhelmed by the brightness of the cadmium. The photos were better but I still had to photo shop radically to get something similar to the original. As you see the ACEO has more orange and violet tones and the OSWOA is a deeper, richer red using my much coveted GOLDEN OPEN Pyrole Red. Both paintings have gold/bronze highlights which don't show well here, but the ACEO has many more, making it change in different light. Sadly the rich, velvety look of the larger rose just can't be captured and must be seen to be truly appreciated.
