BLUE HEAVEN Painting Progression DAY 9

This painting was very cathartic for me. I fell in love with Jacaranda trees in November 1996 when I saw my first one in bloom. They are large trees with boughs that dip close to the ground. They flower in early spring which in the southern hemisphere is November. There are no leaves when they bloom, the trunks are grey or black and sunlight dapples through the empty spaces between blossom and the Violet/Blue petals giving an almost ethereal quality. You are surrounded with the essence of blue. The feeling is like nothing else on earth.

Alberts was always quick to organize special treats and when he found out how much I loved Jacarandas he phoned around to find the avenue with the most blossom and took me for a drive under the trees. What a spectacular thing idea. I will never forget that moment which moved me to tears.

I vowed I would one day paint a Jacaranda in full bloom, but up till now I haven't felt I could create that presence. Here I worked to convey the essence of a majestic J tree.

Needless to say this is a very special painting but I  may be persuaded to let it go to the right person.

The first image is a photo and the second a scan to give you a complete view of the painting.

  1. I really enjoyed reading about this amazing tree. I do not think I have ever seen one. Are they similar to the lilac?
The painting is wonderful and shows the love you have for it. If you cannot paint another one just as good, you would be smart to consider this to be a keeper and not part with it.
You and I most likely do not do that often enough.

    1. The colour is similar to a blue lilac or hydrangea but because the trees are generally very tall, I would say 20 feet or more, the light shines through the flowers and standing below it makes your feel like you are floating in blue light. The blossom looks a bit like Fox Gloves.
