The Mini Masters are a series where I do homage to famous Artists on their birthday by creating a work inspired by them. Gerhard Richter is such a fascinating Artist. He has created so much diverse work, but in one series he poured liquid paint over photographs and I just had to try it. As I didn't want to collage, I painted an ocean landscape and poured liquid acrylic over that. The end result is a Mini Master in the style of Gerhard Richter and similar to his photo collage paintings.
I'm bearing up well with the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. There is some amazing work being posted every day at Leslie Saeta's blog, so head on over and enjoy. Over 400 Artists are participating.
GERHARD RICHTER
Gerhard Richter was born 9 February 1932 in Germany. He is a visual artist and a pioneer of New European Painting. Richter has produced abstract, photorealistic paintings, photographs, sculpture and glass pieces to name a few. He echoes Pablo Picasso and Jean Arp in challenging the idea that the artist must maintain a single cohesive style.
In October 2012, Richter's Abstraktes Bild set an auction record price for a painting by a living artist at £21m ($34m).[4] This was exceeded in May 2013 when his 1968 piece Domplatz, Mailand (Cathedral square, Milan) was sold for $37.1 million (£24.4 million) in New York.[5] - From Wikepedia

What a great idea, Sea. Celebrating a painter by doing a work to commemorate them on their birthday is fabulous. And we get to know more about each painter as you do it. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteThank you Vandy. I know a lot of women don't like birthdays, but I love them. It seems natural to me to thank great Artists for their contribution to my life with a little celebration. Sneak peek ... Barbara Hepworth tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work.
ReplyDeleteXOXOXO Barbara
Thanks Barb. Praise indeed!
DeleteI also love birthdays. I figure I will celebrate them every year, and stop only when I can celebrate no longer!
ReplyDeleteGreat work on this Sea. I love the yellows!
Thanks Nan. I love the yellow too, in fact that whole combination of warm blue, cad yellow and magenta mixed with warm white. Delicious! He is an amazingly creative artist and I completely see how he makes the big bucks.
DeleteI like the effect you have achieved here - my pinch the idea LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks Marion. If you mean pinching the giveaway idea, please say I recommended you to support my blog. :)
