Matisse was a painter that excelled at the female form. With his graphic style and darkly outlined forms, he was far ahead of his time. Click on the links to see more of his work and read about his life.
Matisse lived a long and highly productive life. When he was no longer able to paint he developed a type of collage that astounded the public. He was French, and like most artists of his time he spent time in Paris. He died in Nice, France, 3 November 1954
