JOY at resting stage

In November I took a workshop with a top selling local artist FIONA  NEAL. See her work here. The students were a mix of professional, intermediate and beginner artists. Fiona teaches an experiential style, so it wasn't copying what she did, it was wild and free. During the class I started three 24" square works (large for me). 

Fiona explained that the first part of her work is fast and intuitive; then she sets the canvas aside and comes back later. She advises to return a while later to see what it needs to finish the piece. 

I had no idea it would take so long for me to return to the canvases. First there was the busy pre-holiday season, then the celebrations and right into 30 paintings in 30 days and ART PARTY on January 1st. This is the first uninterupted moment I've had to finish them for sale. Every day the three canvases beckon but other matters were more pressing 

So I'm pleased to complete the first one, JOY. You will notice that some of my raised leaf pattern process has been added: Perhaps that is what this painting was waiting for. The quote below seemed appropriate to this series. From Karen Margulis' blog here)
