Wouldn't you know it! After I had been working, on and off for weeks, on a submission due today, I woke up this morning to snow. Yuk! This is part of the painting, as yet untitled (La vie en Rose?), which I'll share in it's full glory when I find out if I make it through the jury. I love it of course but juries do tend to have a mind of their own. Notification is at the beginning of next week and the exhibition opens on Wednesday.

This was exciting to paint because I've always admired the dexterity of the old masters when they paint the folds and details in the lavish court dress of previous centuries. this was a study in red satin which I really enjoyed painting. Perhaps soon I'll be brave enough to try gold and pearl jewellery and tapestry.

The snow melted by the way, but it was windy and cold this afternoon, which is quite different to 15 Celcius a few days ago. I suppose that my prediction that spring had come early was wrong.
