This cockatiel has been patiently waiting for his portrait for some time. I had a chat with a patron during the holidays about her father's love of birds and his cockatiel. It reminded me that I had this image on file and that I should paint it soon. So here he is.
I once shared a condo with a computer whiz that had a cockatiel. The bird had no cage and spent most of it's day roosting on a picture frame or riding on his shoulder. Every now and then it would take a trip around the house, so the doors were kept closed. I seem to remember that one day a visitor forgot to close the screen and that was bye bye birdie. Luckily this was in Australia and being native there, I'm sure he found a mate and lived happily ever after.
The second photo is the work nearing completion. I usually photograph my work and it shows up anything that needs a tweak. Here I needed to thin the neck, and darken some values. I also discovered that I had forgotten to finish the eye with a surround and a sparkle. Just a few well placed brush strokes made all the difference.
