FREE GIFT - FALL MOUNTAIN by Sea Dean and TWO openings

It feels so good to get back into the studio and paint. Here is my latest.

FALL MOUNTAIN by Sea Dean photographed in natural afternoon light

FALL MOUNTAIN by Sea Dean photographed in halogen light
ORIGINAL BY SEA DEAN
On auction at Daily Paintworks

I've been wanting to create a larger version of "Mount Washington in Afternoon Sun" for about a year now. The original was liquid acrylic and this is heavy body. I also wanted to try the black under-painting style of Artists like Edward B. Gordon. In fact I have left the edges of this painting raw and the sides are painted black which create a strong presence. No need to frame of course.

I loved the first in the series and I'm even happier with this version which is larger than most of my daily paintings at 8" x 10". Perhaps I will make one even larger. Interested?

I photographed this under halogen light and it looks so much better in the flesh; I will try again in daylight,

View both in my Daily Paintworks Gallery

Buy now, gift wrap and relax with a smile when everyone is still rushing around in December. Everyone purchasing from now till 25th December 2013 receives a free print as a thank you.

PAINTING HOLIDAY?

It's always good to have a change and regular readers will have noticed that I've had a bit of a painting holiday since mid October. In the past month I have posted only 3 new works and I've placed some of my large paintings on auction at Daily Paintworks. One of those 3 paintings was a commission, much larger than my recent work and I'm pleased to say that the new owners were as pleased as punch.

It's been good to drop the daily painting pressure and turn to other tasks. I've cleared my studio and found some rarely used paints and others that I've never used, so you will see some new colours emerging in the next few weeks.

I've also been sorting, framing and creating for two exhibitions. The "activist Art" exhibition opened last Friday in Penticton, BC and runs till January 2nd. The annual under 100 show (U100) at Lake Country Art Gallery, BC, now has 22 of my works chosen from over 500 recent paintings selected, framed and delivered.

The U100 requirement is 10 - 20 pieces under 100 sq inches including the frame. That was a challenge because I like wide frames on small paintings, but this show works best with a larger painting in a narrower frame or on Gallery Wrap Canvas is. The competition is fierce with 700 works on display, so standing out in the crowd is challenging to say the least.

My most recent work, is all on Windpower or Aquarelle and requires a mat and glassed frame. I found that most of the frames I had on hand were larger than 100 sq inches so, I had to cannibalize other framed work and find some small finished Gallery Wrap Canvases, (something I have few of). Anyway that is now over and all I have to do is show up looking pretty at the opening on Saturday. If you're in the area come on down and enjoy the best show of the year.
