I’m still in travel mode, working with my Koi 24 watercolor set. For my birthday I treated myself to a set of water brushes with three flat sizes and three round sizes and I carry them filled so there is no need to take water.
The previous garden and beach watercolors were painted on a different pad, but I’ve switched to a Strathmore block of 140lb (300g/m2) 4” x 6” pre-printed Watercolor Postcards. I suppose these could be mailed without packaging, but I would be worried they would get rips or franking marks.
I am slowly working up a series for my solo exhibition next year, focusing on forests. I’m hoping to include more wood based wall sculptures and wood cradle mounts. I still have many birch slices to do something creative with as well.
EARLY MORNING TREES
by Sea Dean
8" X 6" Strathmore Windpower
This is an impressionist style painting reminiscent of lowland countryside. It could be in the Netherlands or France, or many other semi marsh areas. This is a pretty painting with lovely shades of green and a wide open sky. A lovely reminder that spring is on it's way.
Continuing with my winter theme, "Snowy Pass" is painted on canvas panel using archival pigment, medium, UV protection. Presented with certificate of authenticity and ready to frame.
I don't travel as much these days, but this used to be a familiar view as I plied my way through the Rocky and Coastal Mountain passes. I don't mind driving in snow as long as I have good snow tires and a reliable car. It's actually quite peaceful because most of the crazies stay at home and it is just the truckers and good drivers that attempt the journey.
This particular pass, the Coquihalla, has improved greatly in recent years, but when it first opened the snow clearing was spotty and there were no exit roads, rest stops or road signs, so you just had to keep going no matter what. I remember one time crawling along at about 10km an hour for hours with the car bottoming out all the way, snow and ice underneath and heavy, mesmerizing snow flakes hitting the windshield. With poor visibility, if you stopped or got stuck an 18 wheeler would come along and knock you into the snow bank so that wasn't an option. That was what we call a "white knuckle" drive.
I so want one of these. Now if only it had a pop up large easel. Also I think I would make the shelves deeper to hold all my paint and small canvases. I would also extend them down to the floor and put cupboard doors on so I could hide more paraphernalia.
This model is from W R Memory Keepers $195 US, but it could be a Christmas gift for you from your husband that he could easily build on Boxing Day.
I'm just in the process of making a large storage cupboard into my art studio to get away from disruptive reno mess and noise. I will have a sound system in there, large computer screen and shelves to the ceiling.
Hey Santa! A fold down table like this would be a perfect addition to my mini studio.
I do most of my painting on a desk, which isn't the best solution, but it's OK for small paintings. When my canvas goes over 24" x 24" I can no longer prop it up and access my paints, so I move to a portable french easel which takes up waaaay too much room. A better solution is the dining room table against the wall but not so good when you want to eat. I've seen wall easels but I think this would be much more practical.
ROAD TO HEAVEN ACEO - 8 x 10" Mat and Archival Bag - $35
This super cool semi-abstract piece, ROAD TO HEAVEN comes with an 8" x 10" mat, backing board, and archival bag, ready to file in your collection box or pop into a standard frame. I must say this mat makes this look like a very expensive designer painting.
Like all my ACEO, this was created on a small desk, so I'll have no problem creating more in my new teeny tiny studio. Will post pics when it's done.
RED ROAD Original Painting by Sea Dean 5" x 7" on canvas panel To purchase this original painting and view my Gallery please visit Daily Paintworks Also available in Limited Edition ACEO here
I took this photo some time ago with the intention of painting a road series. I've spent a lot of time in my life driving long distance, and I love it. Out on the open road, no pressures, free as a bird. No problems with luggage, security checks, or people telling you what to do and where to go. Bliss!Unfortunately with the price of gas I don't do this any more. In fact I'm considering getting a beter bike so I can go cruising on that. I very much enjoyed working on the sky and shadows in this painting. I'm particularly proud of the clouds.

This is the last submission for 30 Paintings in 30 Days. Yay! It also qualifies for this week's Daily Paintworks snow challenge. Plus I added my own challenge, to paint in a limited palette.
I used Ultramarine, Raw Sienna, Alizarin Crimson and Titanium White. It's surprising how much you can do with just 3 colours and white. I worked on the clouds in a new way, trying to create an interesting look. I made the foreground colours darker and less greyed to create distance. I paid attention to the late afternoon sun creating longer, more purple shadows. I allowed the orange sunlight to kiss the tops of the trees on the facing slope and put the road cut and the facing trees in deep shadow.
I rather enjoyed creating this painting which took several hours of total absorbtion.

This is a series showing the progression from a light and airy impressionist type painting to a bold abstract. Each step of the way with Sunlit Walk I, II, III, and IV the same scene is explored and altered. Looking at the first and last paintings together you can see quite a variation, but the change is fairly subtle between each step.
This series would look wonderful along the entrance hallway to your entertainment area. I can ship all four together if you wish. Currently you can take advantage of the auctions of Sunlit Walk I and Sunlit Walk II and combine them with Sunlit Walk III and Sunlit Walk IV which can be purchased via my Daily Paintworks gallery.
To guarantee you get the whole set, choose the BUY NOW button on the auction paintings. Send me an email through Daily Paintworks if you intend shipping them together.
Of course there are no guarantees with an auction, so if you want to be sure that you have the whole series, click on the BUY NOW button below and you can pay for the complete set plus shipping in one purchase and I will ship tomorrow.
