Daumier was born in Marseille to Jean-Baptiste Louis Daumier and Cécile Catherine Philippe. His father was a glazier whose literary aspirations led him to Paris in 1814, seeking to be published as a poet.
In 1816 the young Daumier and his mother followed Jean-Baptiste to
Paris. Daumier showed an inclination to
the artistic profession, which his father tried to check by
placing him as an errand boy to a huissier and then a bookseller.
In 1822 he became protégé to artist and archaeologist Alexandre Lenoir, a friend of Daumier's father. The following year Daumier entered the Académie Suisse.
Daumier made his first attempts at lithography while working for a lithographer and publisher named Belliard. Having mastered the technique, Daumier produced plates for music publishers, and advertisements. This was followed by anonymous work for publishers emulating the style of Charlet
His most well known work today is probably an illustration of Don Quixote.
My painting today is a sweet child exploring nature. This is painted on Strathmore Windpower and is a raw edge painting allowing it to be mounted on top of mat board.

HERALD OF CHANGE II by Sea Dean Mixed Media- Raw Edge Painting 2" x 6" on Strathmore Windpower I have created this image to show the raw edge of the painting which in this case (not always) I've gilded in bronze like a Victorian calling card. It's a subtle but pretty effect. Naturally the black is the backing board used to show the effect and is not attached to or part of the original painting.
High flow paint allows the most wonderful happy accidents. I find it much easier to create an abstract painting with them because you allow the paint to find it's voice and then enhance it's natural beauty. My raw edge paintings are designed to be mounted to 6" x 8" or 8" x 10" backing board.

I'm a bit late honouring A Y Jackson whose birthday was today, but I started painting just before midnight, inspired byreading
about the great master. His early plein air work was far more delicate
and impressionistic than the later work we are familiar with. I wanted
to capture his soft but intense colours and a very loose interpretation
of one of his early works was the result.
Alexander Young Jackson, CC CMG (October 3, 1882 – April 5, 1974) was a Canadian painter and a founding member of the Group of Seven. Jackson made a significant contribution to the development of art in Canada, and was successful in bringing together the artists of Montreal and Toronto. He exhibited with the Group of Seven from 1920.
In addition to his work with the Group of Seven, his long career included serving as a war artist during World War I (1917–19) and teaching at the Banff School of Fine Arts, from 1943 to 1949. In his later years he was artist-in-residence at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinberg, Ontario THE GROUP OF SEVEN, sometimes known as the Algonquin school, was a group of Canadian landscape painters from 1920 to 1933, originally consisting of
Franklin Carmichael (1890–1945), Lawren Harris (1885–1970), A. Y. Jackson (1882–1972), Frank Johnston (1888–1949), Arthur Lismer (1885–1969), J. E. H. MacDonald (1873–1932), and Frederick Varley (1881–1969). Later, A. J. Casson (1898–1992) was invited to join in 1926; Edwin Holgate (1892–1977) became a member in 1930; and LeMoine Fitzgerald (1890–1956) joined in 1932. Two artists commonly associated with the group are Tom Thomson (1877–1917) and (1871–1945). Although he died before its official formation, Thomson had a significant influence on the group. In his essay "The Story of the Group of Seven", Lawren Harris wrote that Thomson was "a part of the movement before we pinned a label on it"; Thomson's paintings "The West Wind" and "The Jack Pine" are two of the group's most iconic pieces. Emily Carr was also closely associated with the Group of Seven, though was never an official member. Believing that a distinct Canadian art could be developed through direct contact with nature, The Group of Seven is most famous for its paintings inspired by the Canadian landscape, and initiated the first major Canadian national art movement. To mount my Raw Edge Seriessimply put double sided tape on the back and press to a stiff mat board cut to 5" x 7" or 8" x 10". Then pop into a standard frame without glass. Voila!
THE BLOG HOP EXPLORED
I had a little time yesterday to follow the blog hop I was involved in recently. It was a bit challenging to trace back and find the line of artists that linked together to share each others work. The hop went around the world to Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, France etc. and through a list of creative processes from painting, design, printmaking, Encaustic, sculpture, photography, drawing,Watercolour, collage, and the list goes on.....
I followed the hop back to the beginning of July, but I'm sure it goes back a lot further, so if anyone wants to find another list of links please pass them on to me. I plan to go back to each artist whose link I have found and give them this list.
