Tulips

Tulips always make me think of spring and with all the snow we’ve had, I sure need a breath of spring. These are offset in a soft white mat to give a modern twist. I am featuring them today at Daily Paintworks as one of the artists selected this month to grace the top of the page.

YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER?

PEONY PASSION
by Sea Dean

Currently available at Daily Paintworks

RADIATE I
by Sea Dean
6" x 6" Wrap Canvas
Framed as shown
Now available at Artfinder

With all the garden shows in our area it's hard to ignore that this is flower season. I read a blog recently that asked for readers to share their favorite flower. I was quite fascinated to read the answers. I wonder if blogs in other parts of the world would come up with different results. I actually went back and counted all 270 choices and the clear winner was the lucious PEONY chosen 34 times,  followed by the DAISY with 25 (no surprises there) and runner up, a tie between ROSES and SUNFLOWERS. Also popular were POPPY, a favorite of Georgia O' Keefe with 14 votes and HYDRANGEA with 15 votes, both loved by many daily painters.

GIVERNY 1900 by Sea Dean after Claude Monet

 Currently Available at Daily Paintworks

Some surprises were that Claude Monets favorites, IRIS and WATERLILY had only one vote each and they are some of the most famous flower paintings in the world. There were also some unusual one vote flowers to research; the amusing Dutchmans Britches, Maga and Margarita, Psychotria Elata (which apparently looks like lips), Spiked Rampion, Schersmin, Laurina Blossom, Lisianthus and Borage. More surprises came with Gladiolus, Cherry Blossom, Orchid, and Carnation with only one or two votes. And Daffodils only 5 votes and Tulips only 7. Even grouping all types of lily, they still only achieved 9 votes.

STAR PERFORMANCE by Sea Dean SOLD

My favorite bouquet flower is STARGAZER LILY. They are outrageously beautiful and their perfume is out of this world. I love receiving cut flowers, but so many die or droop quickly, not the proud Stargazer! I also love luscious deep red PEONIES and PETUNIAS because my father planted them and I plan to paint the gorgeous bouquet of silk peonies on my dining table at the moment. In memory of my grandmother, who loved her small garden, there are, HYDRANGEAS and PANSIES. For my sister her name translates as LILY OF THE VALLEY. For my mother SUNFLOWERS AND GERANIUM for garden favorites and GLADIOLI as cut flowers.

More of my favorites are VIOLETS and SNOWDROPS, which stir memories of making posies for my mother, grandmother and teachers when I was a child. And BLUEBELLS, BUTTERCUPS, COWSLIPS, DAISIES, FIREWEED, FOX GLOVES, FRANGIPANI, HOLLYHOCKS, LUPINES, SNAP DRAGONS and STEPHANOTIS all have their special place in my heart.

BUTTER UP BUTTERCUP by Sea Dean

Currently Available at Daily Paintworks

I think we usually choose certain flowers because they have a special connection, perhaps they were a grandmother's favorite, or it starred in your first bouquet. I've given my choices and now it's your turn. What are your favorite flowers and why? I love to read your comments.

THE BLOG HOP EXPLORED

I had a little time yesterday to follow the blog hop I was involved in recently. It was a bit challenging to trace back and find the line of artists that linked together to share each others work. The hop went around the world to Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, France etc. and through a list of creative processes from painting, design, printmaking, Encaustic, sculpture, photography, drawing, Watercolour, collage, and the list goes on.....

I followed the hop back to the beginning of July, but I'm sure it goes back a lot further, so if anyone wants to find another list of links please pass them on to me. I plan to go back to each artist whose link I have found and give them this list.

How we blog hopped ... Where possible, the first name links to the blog hop blog and the other names are linked to the artist's recent blogs. Hop around and see who you would like to follow. I would like to follow them all, it's a fascinating group.

SPRING TULIPS ACEO - A gift

SPRING TULIPS
by Sea Dean

To view my online Gallery please visit Daily Paintworks
Shop for Limited Edition ACEO here

This has been one of my favourites since first painting it. At the LCAG ART HOUSE GIFT SHOP for volunteer duty today, I was pleased to see that SPRING TULIPS had sold. I'm not surprised because it looked so beautiful in its miniature white frame. The volunteer didn't write the name of the purchaser on the receipt, so I unfortunately have no idea who purchased the little painting, however, my ACEO make perfect gifts when framed so I'm fairly sure it was for a gift.

Thank you mystery patron. If you're reading this blog, please let me know who you are. :)

I've always thought this composition would make a wonderful large painting, perhaps 20" x 16" comes to mind. I take commissions, so if you would like to schedule my time for a holiday gift, now would be a good time. Perfect for Mum, sister, a friend or your powder room.

"Still Life with Blossom" is painted on Strathmore Windpower with the highest quality archival paints, mediums and UV protection. I have cropped the image slightly and used a bit of Artistic license.

Nan Johnson - I´ve been a fan of Nan Johnson for some time and during Leslie Saeta´s recent Art Marketing class we teamed up with 8 other Artists to create a support group. Since then I´ve learned to appreciate Nan even more and dare I say we´ve become friends. I love her work and this is an example of her interesting and enjoyable blog. Please take a mo to click over, put your feet up and enjoy a lovely story over cookies and coffee.

ANGEL BOUQUET

ANGEL BOUQUET
ORIGINAL ART
4" x 6" OSWOA Postcard
To view my Gallery or purchase this painting please visit Daily Paintworks. If there is no current bid you may contact me for the "Buy Now" price. Larger originals or prints may be available.

A strange thing happened to me with this painting. It didn't seem to matter what I did, I just couldn't get it to photograph. I made several adjustments to the values, tried again and the same thing! I finally took it to the scanner and as you see it came up beautifully. Not only that, but as soon as I looked at the scan I instantly saw the angel, hence the title. Do you see her? Then I started to look further and saw another angel and a dove. God works in mysterious ways!

I love this size because it is inexpensive to treat yourself and it can be mailed in an ordinary envelope. The painting is inexpensive to frame in a standard wall or easel frame and they are a perfect size to place on your desk at work. I can imagine this brightening a dull office all year round.

And only you need to know about the guardian angels.

3 SPRING TULIPS

"Beneath the white blanket of snow, down under the brown cold earth are the beginnings of glorious tulips."

Quote from Lynette Williams Cutting up Blog - You really must take a look at Lynette's amazing paintings created by cutting and applying fabric. It's hard to believe what she can do.

To view my Gallery or purchase this painting please visit Daily Paintworks. If there is no current bid you may purchase at the "Buy Now" price by contacting me. Ask about larger Originals or Prints of this ACEO.

I've been working on simplification and I think I've achieved what I was aiming for in this painting. I love the idea of leaving the background indistinct so the viewer can create their own story.

The next painting may seem familiar because surprisingly, it is still available. Magenta Tulips is waiting for the first person to hit the buy button on DPW.
