A time for every season

Getting back on track for the new year and working on scheduling, I’m rather relieved to say that two major committments in my year have been suspended. Leslie Saeta is not hosting the “30 Paintings in 30 days Challenge” this January, so the next one will be September, phew! Also Kat Sloma will not be running “Liberate your Art” postcard swap in 2019, but it will return next year.

I had decided to focus on portraits for the 30 day challenge, to kick start my plans for more people painting in 2019, due to the success of my Frida series. Also, I‘m working on some new art card designs, so adding a set of postcards for Kat would have been easy; at least they will be ready in time next year.

I’m glad, this gives me more time to work on two Lake Country Art Gallery submissions, the annual intergenerational, “Welcome to the (neighbour)hood” and the annual members show “To the Dogs. Plus, Lake Country Coffee Shop called to move my annual solo show to the month around Easter. This is very close to my successful September solo show and means I have to put a fire under plans for more wood sculptures. I should also include some new blossom paintings.

On top of all that I have to organize some work for a new gallery that contacted me last year. It’s going to be a busy couple of months.

Above is a new iPad drawing as yet nameless, that is for the new art card collection. I was going to crop it as below, but I rather like the raged edge of the first version. What do you think? Which do you like most?

#LYA2018 Roundup

Well, it’s over for another year. Liberate Your Art postcard swap seems to have whizzed by in the blink of an eye. I finally received the last of my regular swap postcards from Kat Sloma, the organizer. I also received a surprise extra from Kathy MacIntyre which really brightened my day. The first one is still lost in my boxes and no-one has stepped forward to claim the postcard on our FB group, so it remains a mystery. It’s probably keeping company with all the other things that have gone missing in the move. I hope they’re having a party in the land of lost stuff.

Wow! just watched the video on Kat’s link and the art this yeat is amazing. My contribution is at 3:03 I almost thought I’d forgotten to mail it in as I’m usually close to the beginning. Happy Landing #LYA2018

One of my LYA2018 postcards made it to Reston VA USA and the home of Interior Designer, A Lee Albritton. Four more are still out there and I’m hoping that means they’ve traveled a long distance.

On the horizon is the LIBERATE YOUR ART BLOG HOP on April 13th. This is a chance to visit all the participants’ blogs and websites and see some fabulously crative art. Every year Kat Sloma creates a free video of the art and there is a link to a collectible poster of the event. The event statistics will also be released. It’s always an enlightening and interesting day and I look forward to it again this year.

The swappers are a hardy bunch, and once the main swap has concluded they start side swapping for cards that have caught their eye. Sometimes the swaps keep coming well into summer. Perhaps by then my MIAs will arrive at their destinations.

#LYA18 Postcards Chosen

This will be the fourth year I’ve participated in the Kat Sloma “Liberate Your Art” postcard swap. Kat encourages everyone to create postcards from items they have made and share them with the world. There are no limits to content, but for simplicity they must be standard size and shape and of a durable nature, so Kat encourages participants to have them professionally made by printers like Moo or Vistaprint.

Due to major time constraints I’ve selected my cards from those I already have for sale. And it will be a surprise which of the five you receive if you get my swap. You can see some of my selection of cards and postcards here. If you want to purchase my cards it is very simple through my link. Currently the ones above and below are available and I hope to add many more before the swap date on March 17th.

To join in the swap you can sign up to participate below and perhaps you will be one of the five who receice a postcard from me. If you do, send me an image of it on display in your home and I will share it with my readers. I will also add contact information and a short intro to your art and website if you wish.

As well as the regular swap, there are many side swaps during the event and some participants keep a growing list of past swappers, so I receive many surprises in my mailbox throughout the spring. Come and enjoy the cornucopia of artistic creation from around the world.
