Forest of Dreams - #30in30 - 8

This is a painting that has been on my tweak pile for some time. I’ve repainted it several times and never been completely happy. This time I decided I would take some of what I have learned from Bob Ross in the last week and give it another go. I’ve changed it so radically that I can call it a whole new painting.

When I do this with my older paintings they develop such great texture from all the layers of paint that people love them, so I hope someone will snap this up soon.

I'm one of the artists taking part in the Leslie Saeta 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. This is the ninth time Leslie has held this event and I've taken part in each one. This is # twenty three of the thirty iPad drawings I plan to complete by September 30th.

Shady Trail

I've had this painting on the back burner for a while, adding the odd tweak, but it never seemed finished. Although it isn't typical of our local landscape, there are many beautiful shady trails to wander along on a hot summer day. So this is another painting destined for our local airport Skyway.

The thing that took the most time with this painting was creating depth along the trail. I would love to add a person walking a dog or a wild animal crossing the trail, but I'm not that brave yet. I think I need to attempt it with a larger painting as this size would be too fiddly.

I enjoyed using colour to create the composition in this pastel like painting. I was painting along with Johannes Vloothuis, using his image for inspiration.

This painting has a textured brushstroke finish which makes it look more like an oil painting. The image appears rather flat here, but with the brushstroke finish and museum quality Gamvar varnish, it is far from it. Too bad I can't capture it's glow in this blog. There is also quite a bit of texture in the foreground trees

My friend Bob Jones is a wonderful photographer who documents his active retirement beautifully. He took a series of interesting photos on a recent hiking trip and I chose this as today's painting. I always love pathways, steps and bubbling steams and this has all three plus a bridge and a wonderful composition, so I couldn't resist. Thanks Bob.
