This is the last submission for 30 Paintings in 30 Days. Yay! It also qualifies for this week's Daily Paintworks snow challenge. Plus I added my own challenge, to paint in a limited palette.
I used Ultramarine, Raw Sienna, Alizarin Crimson and Titanium White. It's surprising how much you can do with just 3 colours and white. I worked on the clouds in a new way, trying to create an interesting look. I made the foreground colours darker and less greyed to create distance. I paid attention to the late afternoon sun creating longer, more purple shadows. I allowed the orange sunlight to kiss the tops of the trees on the facing slope and put the road cut and the facing trees in deep shadow.
I rather enjoyed creating this painting which took several hours of total absorbtion.
TO ENTER THE TWO GIVE-AWAYS USE BOTH BOXES AT THE END OF THIS BLOG

must click and enter each Give-away separately because you are
submitting for two different draws. Leaving a comment on this blog,

chances of winning. You can enter many times each day.
Cat # 14024 Snowy Pass
Sea, we both had the same idea for the final LOL. I also went with a limited palette - with very different results!
ReplyDeleteYou've captured the calmness, but with an ominous storm looming
Great minds think alike. I will take a look at your work on Networked Blogs. I'm loving the simplicity of that app and my new Pinterest widget which is showing next to this comment. I really enjoyed the look of the clouds in this painting. If you study the masters, very few made realistic looking clouds, each one had their own take on it. Hmmm perhaps that thought will lead me to a new series. Do you really live in France?
Deletethat was fun!! these collages pretty much show the palettes we like to work with.
ReplyDeleteah you never turned off the robot thing. argh... another typo and I'm back.
So true. It's good to see them like this. If you do one of these each month, it shows your trends. It's a great way to choose a painting to purchase as well.
DeleteLove your collage Sea. I loved seeing your work each day, and seeing them like this has so much impact! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sheila. I have so many favourites this month even though I've felt quite pressured at times. I will have to pop over and look at yours.
