30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS - # 21 - LITTLE BARN OWL

LITTLE BARN OWL

3.5" x 4.75"Fine Quality Water Colour on French Watercolour Paper

This is the last sheet of my Parisian Sennelier Sketch pad. Boo Hoo! The quality of the paper is so wonderful and it takes quite a beating ... wet, dry, wet, paint, blot, wet, etc. Yup I'm not the most elegant vision when I'm painting watercolors, but I'm learning a lot.

I'm not of the traditional opinion that you can't paint with white. I have white in my watercolor set and I use it to adjust when I've made a mark too dark or too impactful. In this case I wanted to give the impression of a wintery and possibly snowy morning, so yes, I did use my white.

Perhaps it's just this nifty brush that I'm using, the one with water in the handle, but I've also discovered that I like to paint in tiny dots. They are not greatly visible in the finished piece because I go back over with water and blend the edges. However, I do find it helps me to localize the color and prevent mixing where I don't want it.

I'm coastlng down the hill towards the end of the challenge. I'm going to create a few pastels for the final week, because I'm running out of time and I was supposed to do half watercolor and half pastel. Wish me luck!
