Cone flowers intrigue me and I've painted them many times in many different ways. This painting was guided by a photograph of cone flowers, but bears no resemblance to it. Even the colours are completely different and I've yet to see real flowers with iridescent copper highlights! I often find that a painting will guide me if I just get out of the way and let it paint itself.

In the winter when daylight hours are limited many people are affected by S.A.D.D. syndrome and get very depressed. There is no better feeling than turning your face to the sun and allowing the gentle warmth to bathe your skin. Research has discovered that it only takes 10 minutes of off peak sunshine each day to improve your health. Flowers do this naturally.

Sunshine goes a long way towards lifting our spirits. Scientists have brought us solar panels for natural heating but first nations peoples have used the sun's warming power since time began. Agents and Architects are aware that buyers are attracted to big windows, warmth and light. Artists have also known for centuries how important it is to put light in their paintings. Johannes Vermeer was a master of this.

In summer people love to open their windows and bring light into their home, but in winter it's even more important to offset short overcast days with something light and bright.  So this little painting has a big task in hand to brighten a dark corner and bring sunshine to someone's home. I think it's up for the task don't you?

I photographed this painting over 20 times and could not fully capture the beautiful colours or the iridescent paint. If you purchase you will be pleasantly surprised.

Tip: Use a photo to inspire you to get past painter's block.

This is how "Sunshine" would look framed. Frame and mat can be purchased through Brazen Design Studio at these links
